Employment outlook

Contrary to the perception of lackluster employment prospects in the technology sector, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that computer software engineers are projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2006-16 decade and that very good opportunities are expected for college graduates with at least a bachelor's degree in computer engineering or computer science and with practical work experience.

Computer Science is the major field with the highest entry-level salary at SUNY Potsdam. Nationwide, Computer Science bachelor's degree graduates receive salary offers exceeded only by Chemical and Electrical Engineering. Entry-level Computer Scientists receive better salaries than Mathematicians and Statisticians, and information systems specialists receive better salaries than Business Administration majors and Psychology majors.
