- An NKY adventure?
- True confession -- despite setting up this page I live an hour south of NKY and do not frequent the area. On 12/30/06 my wife and I took our 2 kids to the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Newport Aquarium, and dinner. In short:
- The Cincinnati Art Museum is nice. You can check out the exhibits that will be up during SIGCSE on their website.
- The Newport Aquarium is very nice. They have a shark-ray.
- It was Saturday night. We tried to dine at Mitchell's Fish Market at Newport on the Levee, but the wait for non-smoking was > 1 hour. (Smoking we could have been seated almost immediately -- go figure.)
- We tried Cafe Istanbul (at Newport on the Levee), but they were booked with reservations.
- We ate at Mike Fink's
- A few blocks from the Convention Center, toward Greenup St. and down to the river. The restaurant occupies a sternwheel steamboat moored to the side of the river and offers seafood, steaks, chicken. The setting is fantastic. The raw bar was fine. The meals we were served were OK -- maybe equivalent to a chain restaurant -- they were out of stuffed trout and my wasabi salmon was sweet, rather than spicy? Prices varied from about $14 for an entree (chicken, seafood pasta) to $40 forKing Crab. An 8 oz filet mignon was $32. Reservations recommended at least on the weekend, but an easy walk from the convention center, barring ice.
- Vegetarian Dining
- Most restaurants are said to offer a "vegetarian option". Here are a few noted by locals who are to some degree vegetarian:
- Cafe Istanbul (Newport on the Levee: 1 Levee Way # 1112, Newport, KY (859) 581-1777, 1.4mi from conference hotel)
- Korean riverside Restaurant (Covington: 512 Madison Ave (859) 291-1484, 0.3mi from conference hotel )
- York St. Cafe (Newport: 738 York St (859) 261-9675, 1.3 mi from conference hotel)
- Greenup Cafe (Covington, is "vegetarian friendly" : 308 Greenup Street 41011 859-261-3663 0.3mi from Conference Hotel)
- Breakfast Venues (outside the hotels)
- First Watch (Covington: 50 East River Center Blvd, 859-491-0869 < 200ft from Conference Hotel)
- Greenup Cafe (Covington: 308 Greenup Street 859-261-3663, breakfast &:30-10;am M-F, 0.3mi from Conference Hotel )
- Atlanta Bread Company (Covington: 50 East Rivercenter Blvd, 859-261-2488 < 200 ft from Conference Hotel)
